Mary Esther Petersen, 86, passed away quietly Wednesday, May 22, 2013 at Providence Medford Medical Center in Medford, Ore. She was born to Hugo and Maggie Hessel June 17, 1926, in Council Bluffs, Iowa.
As a young girl, she learned to play the trumpet and piano. And as a young woman entering the work force, she worked in the insurance industry in Omaha, Neb. She was very active with the Cub Scouts, O.S.U. Extension, and worked at the polls during election time. Esther and Chuck were also lifelong active members of the Griffin Creek Grange, and were members of the Zion Lutheran Church of Medford, and later with Jacksonville Presbyterian Church. Esther reentered the working field after raising their sons, and worked for many years at the Grange Insurance Co. in Medford, Ore.
Esther enjoyed watching her grandchildren in their school activities, but especially loved watching them in sports.
She is survived by her three sons, Rodney (Connie) Petersen, Steven Peterson, and Don (Lorrie) Petersen; seven grandchildren; and nine great-grandchildren.
Esther was preceded in death by her husband, Charles Petersen, who passed away May 17, 2005.
