Stan M. Strain, 88, of Medford, Ore. passed away July 16, 2013 in his home. He was born August 25, 1924 in Duluth, Minn. to Sam and Alice Strain.
Stan served in the U.S. Navy and has been a longtime resident of Medford starting in 1965. He had a long career in sales beginning in the grocery industry (his claim and pride was sharing how he and Sherm Olsrud built and delivered the first rail car into Sherm's Warehouse) and retiring after 10 years with KOBI television. He also worked in radio and TV for many years as a DJ and broadcaster of the news and advertisements. Stan was very involved in the community and was recognized for his time and fundraising for the youth by 549C School District, Chamber of Commerce, and the YMCA Century Club. He was a member and president of Linebackers, a member of the Referring Association for 25 years and called (famous for his T call) many games throughout the state - including a state championship game. He was a longtime public address announcer for games at South Medford High and was a avid fan of all sports. Stan loved to laugh, to cook, the coast, the desert, and a occasional stop at a casino.
Survivors are his wife, Carol; daughters, Linda (Dale) Hutsell, Jodi (Riley) Gallop, of Medford, and Patti Baker, of East Wenatchee, Wash.; Betsy Allen (John Kowalski), of Medford, Kim (Ed) Habre and Gaye (Larry) Turner, of Happy Valley, Ore., Jill (Mike) Conklin, of Boise, Idaho, and Jody (Gary) Peters, of Anaheim, Calif.; grandchildren, Jon, Jeff, Paul, Jolyn, Shawn, Piper, Jodi, Cameron, Kendall, Josh, Jared, Joel, Jordan, Jennifer, Tracy, Jacque, Betsy, Kris, Andrew, Chris, Danielle, Garen, Carson, Holly, Anabelle and Ben; 36 great-grandchildren; and one great-great-grandchild.
