Medford has extended the filing deadline for citizens of Ward 1 to fill a City Council vacancy following Al Densmore's departure.

The deadline has been extended to 5 p.m. Sept. 6.

Candidates must be a resident of Ward 1, have lived in Medford for more than six months, and be a registered voter. Ward 1 is the city's northeast quadrant, with a western boundary at Crater Lake Avenue, and north, east and southern boundaries along Jackson Street and Oregon Avenue, Harrison Street, Spring Street and McAndrews Avenue.

Candidates must complete an application, obtain 25 signatures from Ward 1 residents, and participate in an interview process with the Ward 1 Citizen Committee and the City Council.

The chosen candidate will serve out the remaining of Densmore's term, which ends Dec. 31, 2014.
