Umpqua Dairy's small curd cottage cheese received first place in the "Best of the Best" category at the World Dairy Expo Championship Dairy Product Contest in Wisconsin.

Umpqua Dairy's small curd cottage cheese received first place in the "Best of the Best" category at the World Dairy Expo Championship Dairy Product Contest in Wisconsin.

On the 100-point scale for cottage cheese judging, the Roseburg-based Umpqua Dairy received a score of 99.9 percent.

The contest, sponsored by the Wisconsin Dairy Products Association, received 820 entries for a variety of products, including cheese, butter, milk, yogurt, cottage cheese, ice cream, sour cream, sherbet and others. Judging was held at the University of Wisconsin-Madison and the Madison Area Technical College Culinary School Aug. 13 through 15.

The dairy will receive a first place trophy Oct. 1, presented by World Dairy Expo officials.
