Sam and Barbara Guisler celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary with a potluck and dance with family and friends at the Rogue Valley Square Dance Center on Sept. 15, 2013.

Sam met and married Barbara Graber on Stewart Air Force Base in Newburg, N.Y., on Sept. 21, 1963, where they were stationed. Barbara was born and raised in Ashland; Sam was born and raised in Petersburg, Pa.

Sam spent 12 years in the Air Force serving in Casablanca, Morocco, New York, Japan, California and at the Pentagon. After his discharge they moved to Ashland, where Sam went to work for U.S. National Bank and attended Southern Oregon College (now SOU). He was transferred to Portland, where he finished his military career in the Oregon Air National Guard while working at the bank. He retired from the bank and the National Guard in 1996. Barbara was a homemaker and worked for eight years in management at McDonald's.

The couple have three children: Paul and wife Sandra of Medford, and twin daughters Jean Cederwall of Medford and Joan Bauman of Eugene. They have nine grandchildren: Michael Mapes (23), Jacob DeNoon (20), Ashley Leupold (20), Brynn Bauman (8), Trace Bauman (6), Katie Guisler (18), Andrew Guisler (14), Shayne Guisler (8), and Kendra Guisler (5).

In their free time, they enjoy ballroom dancing around the valley, RVing and spending time with their grandchildren. Both are volunteers with Habitat for Humanity helping build houses. Barbara also enjoys quilting, while Sam enjoys helping his children with building projects.
