Medford's Parks & Recreation Department will kick off the Christmas season with several free events starting Saturday, Nov. 30.

The fun starts with the 10th annual Candy Cane Hunt and Marshmallow Roast at 4:30 p.m. at Pear Blossom Park, located at the corner of Fourth and Bartlett streets at The Commons. There will be free coffee and hot chocolate.

Santa Claus arrives at 5 p.m., and Christmas music will be provided by local band Chapter II. Santa will be available for photos in the Sky Oak Financial lobby — across from the park — until 6:30 p.m.

The event's Christmas tree will be lit at 6 p.m.

There will also be fire engines and police cars from the City of Medford on display, along with arts and crafts and, weather-permitting, a potential screening of "How the Grinch Stole Christmas."

The event will feature a coloring contest for children ages 4 to 12 in the Lithia headquarters from 3:30 to 5:30 p.m., with four bikes awarded to contest winners.
