A man who was allegedly hauling more than two pounds of heroin from Los Angeles to Portland had his trip cut short Wednesday in Medford by local and federal law enforcement.

A man who was allegedly hauling more than two pounds of heroin from Los Angeles to Portland had his trip cut short Wednesday in Medford by local and federal law enforcement.

Raul Alvarez-Gutierrez, 24, is currently being held in the Jackson County Jail without bail on charges of unlawful distribution and possession of heroin. He is also being held by U.S. Immigrations and Customs Enforcement for being in the country illegally.

The Medford Area Drug and Gang Enforcement team reported Alvarez-Gutierrez was on a bus that had stopped for a break in a parking lot at 1:30 p.m. Wednesday near the corner of Highway 62 and Highway 238 in Medford. Police had received a description of someone believed to be hauling drugs and Alvarez-Gutierrez matched that description. Police found the heroin in a bag and arrested him without incident.
