April 18, 1920 to February 11, 2014

Ken was born in Medford, Oregon to Ralph and Edna Raymond. He graduated in 1938 from Medford High School and studied at Southern Oregon College. During World War II he served in the Army's Military Intelligence Service. He loved traveling across the country on assignment, developing a lifelong interest in trains. In 1949 he graduated from Oregon State College, and went on to earn a Bachelor of Divinity degree at Northwestern Seminary in Minneapolis, after which he returned to live in the Rogue Valley.

An ordained minister, Ken presided over many weddings and memorial services and taught a group Bible study in Jacksonville for over 30 years, but he made his living teaching piano and organ lessons. He loved to talk about the successes of his students, and kept in touch with many of them long after their studies ended.

In 1963 Ken married Shirley Merriman and became a loving father to her two young children. Ken and Shirley enjoyed traveling to Hawaii, Canada, and many national parks, as well as taking scenic drives in the valley. Their Jacksonville home was a regular gathering place for family festivities and the scene of many silly times with their four grandchildren.

Ken was preceded in death by his brother, Robert, and by his wife, Shirley. He is survived by his stepchildren, Mark Merriman and Sheryl Disher; his son-in-law Richard Disher; his grandchildren, Tim Merriman, Amy Miller, Todd Disher, and Justin Disher; and his great-grandchildren, George and Anna Disher; as well as by his family-in-love, Dick and Jeanne Barbara.

A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, February 22, 2014 at Cornerstone Christian Church, 608 N Bartlett, in Medford. Remembrances in Ken's honor may be made to Wycliffe Bible Translators or to the Southern Oregon Humane Society.
