  • A White City man was cited on a drunken driving charge after police said he drove into Interstate 5's southbound lanes while headed north and slammed into a commercial truck Monday evening.
Oregon State Police said Robert Piland, 45, was near milepost 30 at 8:17 p.m. when his Chevy Tahoe drifted over the center median into the southbound lanes. A southbound truck, driven by 43-year-old Eric Porter of Oakdale, slammed into the Tahoe head on.
Piland was extricated from his vehicle and transported to Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center with non-life-threatening injuries. He was later cited by OSP for driving under the influence of intoxicants, police said in a news release. Porter was not injured.
OSP, Medford police, Medford Fire-Rescue and the Oregon Department of Transportation responded to the scene. A southbound travel lane was closed for about two hours during the investigation and cleanup.
