  • BELLINGHAM, Wash. — The Bellingham Bells downed struggling Medford, 3-1, in West Coast League action on Wednesday.
    Rogues starter Jackson Bertsch allowed five hits, one run (earned) and two walks and struck out four in six innings.
    Medford's Donald Glover Jr. went 2-for-3 with an RBI double in the ninth inning that brought home Nathan Etheridge. Victor Garcia was 2-for-4 for the Rogues, who committed four errors against the Bells (32-12).
    Medford (22-23) is 3-7 in its last 10 games.

    WESTERN NATIONAL — The second and final day of pool play at the 29-team ASA 14B Western National Tournament at U.S. Cellular Community Park featured strong performances from a pair of Southern Oregon squads.
    The Southern Oregon Dirt Dawgs of Grants Pass headlined the six-team Oregon contingent by capturing a No. 2 seed in bracket play after downing Alpine (Calif.), 10-5, in Pool F action. Grants Pass will face third-seeded West Valley (Calif.) in the opening round of bracket play at 11 a.m. today.
    The Klamath Basin Bandits of Klamath Falls bounced back from a tough opener to earn a No. 3 seed by topping Sunnyvale (Calif.), 6-4. The victory set up a 9 a.m. contest with TABU Scramblers (Wash.), a No. 2 seed.
    Roseburg's Indian Fastpitch squad and the Central Point Comets each staked early leads in their respective contests before falling. The Comets lost, 7-5, to Clovis (Calif.).
    After winning on Day 1, the state champion Oregon Silver Bullets suffered a 14-4 setback to El Rio (Calif.) and settled for third place in Pool G.
    For the second straight day, Southern California ASA champion Escondido rallied for two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to secure victory, this time dispatching Garden Grove (Calif.), 4-3.
