August is set to be a big month for Three Rivers Medical Center, with the planned opening of the four-story Asante Center for Outpatient Health at 537 Union Ave.
The roughly $30 million building is nearly as big as the hospital itself, next door, and will house doctor’s offices, surgery rooms and an urgent care clinic, plus laboratory, X-ray and rehabilitation services.
“We are very excited about this building,” Robert Callaway, facilities manager, said Thursday as workmen scurried about, finishing construction.
Asante hopes to attract physicians to the area with the new building and its consolidated services. The building is to be home to Asante Physician Partners, which is due to start seeing patients at the building the week of Aug. 11.
“We think this is going to give us the ability to help us recruit more physicians to the area,” David Kinyon, vice president of operations at Three Rivers, told the Daily Courier in a previous interview.
Doctors with Asante Physician Partners include surgeons Megan Frost, Aaron Martin and Scott Nelson; urologists Daniel Khalil and Robert Mayer; and four doctors in orthopedics/sports medicine: James Dowd, Matthew Nugent, Daniel Wieking and Kiley Ziegler.
The center’s urgent care clinic and X-ray facility are due to open Aug. 25. Hours will be 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Monday though Friday, and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
The striking metal and glass building, at 90,000 square feet, is easily visible from the Redwood Highway at Fairgrounds Road. It has a four-story atrium inside and a wrap-around balcony on two sides of its top floor. Adroit Construction of Ashland is constructing the building, which was designed by Portland-based TVA Architects.
Construction work began in the summer of 2012.
An open house with tours, refreshments and prizes is set for 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Aug. 23. For more information, call 541-472-7000.
