Avista Corp. reported second-quarter per-share earnings of $100.9 million, or $1.67 per share, compared with $25.7 million, or 43 cents per share, a year ago.
The Spokane-based utility company, which supplies Jackson County with natural gas, said it earned $149.4 million, or $2.48 per share, during the first half of the year compared with $68 million, or $1.13 per share the previous year.
"Utility earnings were higher than expected for the second quarter due to lower operating expenses, but this was partially offset by mild weather," said Chairman, President and Chief Executive Officer Scott Morris in a statement. "Year-to-date utility earnings were above our expectations as a result of lower operating expenses throughout the year. We also had colder than normal weather in the first quarter, which was partially offset by milder weather."
