Hillevi Johnson, daughter of Scott Johnson and Lori Koljord Johnson of Medford, graduated Summa Cum Laude during commencement ceremonies at Western Oregon University on June 14, 2014, in Monmouth.
Johnson was the recipient of the Julia McCulloch Smith award for outstanding senior female. Only one student receives the award each year, making the award one of the University's most prestigious. She was named to the dean's list for the university's spring 2014 term.
She is a 2010 North Medford High School graduate and valedictorian.
Johnson studied American Sign Language and majored in Spanish language and cultre. She was involved in the university's Peer Leaders Understanding Students (PLUS) Team, served as a gender and sexual diversity advocate for the Associated Students of Western Oregon University, and participated in and led international service trips to Africa, Peru and England.
Johnson plans to move to Portland, where she intends to seek volunteer or internship opportunities with area nonprofit organizations.
