A two-hour standoff in White City ended peacefully this weekend when a man who had reportedly pointed a flare gun loaded with a 12-gauge shotgun shell at another person finally complied with Jackson County Sheriff's deputies' requests to come out of his bedroom.
Glen Anthony Dyer, 22, was lodged in the Jackson County Jail on charges of menacing, recklessly endangering another, pointing a firearm at another and interfering with police. He remains in jail today on $17,000 bail, records show.
Deputies were called to a home in the 3000 block of Avenue E in White City at 3:30 p.m. Saturday for a disturbance in which Dyer allegedly threatened a family member with the flare gun, a sheriff's department press release said. When deputies arrived, the person who had been threatened and others in the home came outside, but Dyer locked himself in his bedroom with the gun and refused to come out, officials said.
The Jackson County SWAT Team and Hostage Negotiations Team were called and came to the residence. Negotiators talked with Dyer for more than two hours before he agreed to come out. When he emerged, he was taken into custody without further incident, officials said.
