UPDATED —  A threatening message left at a Southern Oregon University facility led to closure of the Ashland campus Wednesday, Oct. 7, according to a statement issued by the Ashland Police Department late Tuesday. SOU Campus Public Safety officers immediately notified APD of the discovery at an unspecified facility, the statement said, and campus and APD officials are working on analyzing the potential threat.

A criminal investigation will be initiated, APD said, with assistance from partner agencies as appropriate.

EARLIER: ASHLAND — Southern Oregon University's main campus will be closed Wednesday because of an unconfirmed threat under investigation by the Ashland Police Department, school officials announced late Tuesday.

The university's website noted that classes and other activities on the Ashland campus are cancelled for the day. The Higher Education Center in Medford is not impacted and will remain open, officials stated.
