Demolition began this week at Southern Oregon University's McNeal Pavilion and pool building in Ashland. The work clears the way for the university’s $29 million planned remodel and expansion of its aging athletic facilities at Wightman Street near Siskiyou Boulevard. Once completed, the new McNeal will include a 58,000-square-foot student recreation center, a main gym, an auxiliary gym and a dance studio, but not a pool. The overall project, which is estimated to take 18 months to complete, was funded by the Legislature in 2014.
