Medford police will be glad to share a cup of coffee Tuesday with anyone who wants to stop by for a chat.

From 9 to 10:30 a.m. at Punky's Diner, 953 Medford Center Drive, several officers will make themselves available to chat with visitors.

Deputy Chief Brett Johnson said there will be no formal presentations or talks, just several police officers on standby to talk with whoever wants to stop by. The event is open to anyone.

"We'll be there to answer questions. We might even end up with some followup," Johnson said, adding a key objective is to build relationships between the police and citizens.

The Coffee With a Cop event, a national program started in California, is designed to "break down the barriers between police officers and the citizens they serve."
