Caroline McMahon didn’t leave anything to chance as Cascade Christian wrapped up its sixth consecutive Southern Cascade League volleyball title with a straight-set victory over rival St. Mary’s Tuesday.
McMahon had a precise performance at the net in a 25-15, 25-11, 25-17 win at the Crusaders’ court.
McMahon, a sophomore outside hitter, pounded 18 kills on 29 swings for an impressive 62 percent for the top-ranked Challengers (25-1, 8-0 SCL).
“She was on fire,” said Cascade Christian coach Rob Kleker. “She was hitting the ball from anywhere. Just about anything she touched found the floor.”
Claire Hawkins added nine kills, Allison Winter dished out 26 assists and Gabby Burton provided a team-high five aces.
For St. Mary’s (14-13, 6-2), Madi Christensen and Hallie Shean recorded three kills each. Aessa Catt added two kills and Ashley Rietmann contributed seven assists.
“We attacked the ball really well,” said Kleker. “We kept the pressure on them with our serve.”
St. Mary’s will face Lakeview in a SCL playoff on Saturday at Cascade Christian. The winner will face the Challengers following the earlier match.
SOUTH EUGENE 3, NORTH MEDFORD 0: At Eugene, Alex Barry recorded 23 assists and seven digs in a 25-20, 25-18, 25-12 Southwest Conference loss for North Medford.
Ashley Ripplinger added eight kills and nine digs and Anna Lorenz 17 digs for the Black Tornado (10-14, 5-6 SWC).
South Eugene improved to 19-5 overall and 8-3 in league.
SHELDON 3, GRANTS PASS 2: At Grants Pass, Grants Pass took visiting Sheldon the distance but came up short in a 20-25, 25-22, 22-25, 25-17, 15-12 SWC loss.
Elliott Cook sparked Grants Pass (15-7, 7-4 SWC) with 15 kills and seven blocks. Devin Ireland added 12 kills and 13 digs and McKenna Musser passed 38 assists and came up with 18 digs.
Sheldon (9-8, 7-4) avenged an earlier-season five-set loss to Grants Pass.
CRATER 3, EAGLE POINT 0: At Central Point, Crater’s Nicole Morse recorded 12 kills and nine digs in a 25-15,25-16, 25-10 Midwestern League win.
Rane Jensen chipped in with 19 digs and Nehkyah Ellis seven kills for the Comets (14-8, 9-4).
Ryleigh Gainey recorded 11 kills and 20 digs and Alyson Scheffler three kills and 13 digs for Eagle Point (3-16, 1-12).
PHOENIX 3, HENLEY 0: At Phoenix, Phoenix’s Lindsey Burns recorded five kills and Sophia Tringolo five assists in a 25-14, 25-9, 25-21 Skyline Conference loss.
Alexis Smith and Kassidy Calhoun tallied six digs apiece for the Pirates (5-13, 2-8 Sky). Henley improved to 14-3 overall, 9-1 in league.
LAKEVIEW 3, ROGUE RIVER 1: At Lakeview, Lakeview posted a 25-5, 27-25, 22-25, 25-18 SCL home victory.
The Honkers improved to 3-5 in the SCL and 5-15 overall while Rogue River is 1-7 in league and 4-16 on the season.
