North Medford was struggling against Grants Pass when the Black Tornado got some big contributions off the bench from junior guards Quinton Rumrey and Oscar Banuelos in Southwest Conference boys basketball.

Rumrey and Banuelos combined for 15 of North’s 18 fourth-quarter points to help the seventh-ranked Black Tornado register its 14th consecutive victory, 54-41, at home Tuesday.

Banuelos got the Black Tornado (16-4, 8-0 SWC) started with a 3-pointer early in the final period and Rumrey connected on three treys to spark the attack.

“(Grants Pass) hung in throughout the game,” said North Medford head coach Scott Plankenhorn, whose team held a 36-33 lead entering the fourth. “The game was tight and we needed every basket.”

Rumrey, who was 4-for-4 on 3-pointers, finished with 12 points.

“(Rumrey) is probably our best shooter,” said Plankenhorn. “When he gets hot he can fill it up.”

North’s Kaison Faust, who faced a box-and-one defense, was limited to eight points but still grabbed a team-high 11 rebounds.
