Four of 10 victories for the North Medford wrestling team were pins Thursday as the Black Tornado made quick work of Sheldon for a 53-21 Southwest Conference dual triumph at North Medford High School.

At 170 pounds, North Medford’s Matthew Smith needed just 57 seconds to pin Sheldon’s Tyler Sessions for one of the quickest matches of the evening.

The Black Tornado also received pins from Julian Stone at 285 pounds, Ethan Miller at 120 and Thomas Hamilton at 138. Stone pinned Sheldon’s Matthew Metcalf in 3:29, Miller got Rudy Zambrano in 3:07 and Hamilton locked up Zachary Tisher in 4:38.

North Medford, which was the beneficiary of three Sheldon forfeits, also received a commanding win by 152-pounder Andres Ramirez, who outworked Walker Lutz to earn a 21-6 technical fall victory in 2:38.

CASCADE CHRISTIAN SPLITS DUAL: At Glide, Trayson Weidman and Max Valle both claimed a pair of big wins for Cascade Christian against Rogue River and Glide in the Special District 4 dual.

The Challengers topped Rogue River, 22-6, but were upended by Glide, 48-22.

At 120 pounds, Weidman collected pins over Glide’s Bailey Wentz and the Chieftains’ Makai Jacob, while Valle won by technical fall over Glide’s Gabe Syverson and followed with a pin of . Rogue River’s Carsen Smith.

RV ADVENTIST 53, PROSPECT 22: Trevor Haugen racked up 21 points and six rebounds in limited minutes as Rogue Valley Adventist’s sizable lead was enough reason to relieve its starters three minutes into the second half of the Mountain Valley League win.

Nathaniel James chipped in 10 points and six rebounds for the Red Tail Hawks (19-5, 12-3 MVL), who can wrap up second place in the MVL with a victory over Triad on Saturday.

Girls Basketball

RV ADVENTIST 34, PROSPECT 20: Savannah Zamora caught fire in the second half, scoring 14 of her 20 points to rally Rogue Valley Adventist from a lackluster start on its home court.

Prospect held a 12-8 advantage on the Red Tail Hawks (10-11, 5-6 MVL) at halftime, but RVA outscored the Loggers 16-4 in the third quarter to take control.

Zamora also had five rebounds, three assists and four steals, with teammate Zoe Belovitch going for six points and five rebounds.
