March 2, 1963 - January 29, 2017
Richard A. Bennett, 53, passed away January 29, 2017 at Providence Saint Vincent Hospital in Portland, Oregon. He was born March 2, 1963 in Riverside, California to Warren Irwin Bennett and Gertrude "Trudy" Adeline (Anderson) Bennett.
Richard grew up in the Rogue Valley, graduating from Medford Senior High School in 1982. He moved away for a while for work then returned briefly in the fall of 1984 to meet his future wife for their first date. He moved back to the Rogue Valley in the summer of 1985 and married Pamela September 21, 1985. The couple enjoyed 31 years of marriage. Richard and Pam moved to Las Vegas where Richard was then employed as an iron worker for the Nevada Test Site. Richard and Pam welcomed their daughter, Tela Marie into the world April 20, 1987 and later in the fall, moved back to the Rogue Valley to be closer to family and all that southern Oregon has to offer.
Richard joined Butler Automotive Group in 1991 and with hard work, dedication, and commitment, worked his way up to service manager of Butler Ford in Ashland, Ore. He excelled in every aspect of customer service and satisfaction by going above and beyond the duties required of the position.
Richard was an avid hunter and angler. He loved to have his whole family around to enjoy the outdoors as much as he did. Many a time did he just shake his head when his wife or daughter would pick out the gaudiest, hot pink, purple, and fluorescent orange lure they could find and manage to catch a fish. Or give out a hearty laugh when his then-young grandson, Chase would talk about "how big the sharks are in the lake Papa." Or running with his grandchildren, Chase, Kailee, and Aubree on the beach at the coast and "rescuing" them from the waves coming in. It was a proud day for him when Chase, Matt, and Richard were fishing the mouth of the Rogue River and Chase caught his first salmon. Chase out-fished both dad and grandpa with a weigh in of 22 lb. and the only fish caught that day.
Along with hunting and fishing Richard loved family time, riding his Harley, four wheeling, rock crawling, and spending time in the woods.
Richard was a wonderful, generous man who will be desperately missed by his wife, children, grand- children, extended family, and all those who were fortunate enough to know him.
You will be forever in our hearts.
Richard is survived by his devoted wife, Pamela; daughter, Tela Watson and her husband, Matthew; four grandchildren, Chase, Kailee, Aubree, and Jacob; two older brothers, Reel Chavez and Rod Johnson; two older sisters, Joann (Johnson) Padilla and Vickie (Johnson) Carter. He was preceded in death by his father, Warren; and his mother, Trudy.
A celebration of life will be held at 4:00 p.m. Saturday, February 25, 2017at
Trail Christian Fellowship, 1881 Highway 62, Eagle Point, Ore.
