Smokey Bear is giving away Christmas trees to fourth-graders this season as part of the U.S. Forest Service's national Every Kid in a Park initiative.

The Rogue River-Siskiyou National Forest is offering free Christmas tree-cutting permits to fourth-graders through the initiative designed to encourage kids and their families to visit national parks, forests and public lands free of charge for a full year.

To get a free permit, kids must print out a paper voucher from the Every Kid in a Park website at www.everykidinapark.gov, or bring the same plastic Every Kid in a Park pass that gets them into parks and fee areas for free this year.

Then go to any forest service office to get the free permit.
