A Cascade Christian High School senior won Oregon's annual Poetry Out Loud competition and will advance to the national competition in Washington, D.C. next month.

Megan Kim, 18, was one of nine regional finalists to compete at the Salem Public Library Saturday. She recited "Ode" by British poet Arthur O'Shaughnessy, according to a news release from the Oregon Arts Commission.

The OAC organizes the competitions in coordination with the National Endowment for the Arts and the Poetry Foundation. Participants memorize and present their poems, developing public speaking skills "while exploring the complexity of poetry," the release says.

Hannah Bachman of St. Mary's Academy, Delaney Murray of South Medford High School and Hannah VanHolle of Logos Public Charter School also competed at the state competition after placing in the regional competition.
