Wok Star took the top prize in this year's Smudge Pot Stroll, a tasting tour of downtown Medford restaurants that kicked off Pear Blossom Festival weekend.
The food truck served a duck pot sticker filled with duck, apple and hazelnuts, steamed, then pan-fried in duck fat and finished with a chocolate teriyaki drizzle and a bite of slaw in a mandarin orange and ginger vinaigrette. The dumpling was paired with a hibiscus Arnold Palmer made with fresh lemonade and hibiscus tea.
Wamba Juice won the people's choice award with a mulligatawny soup featuring chicken, apple and vibrant vegetables in a light, lime-spiked coconut milk base. It was paired with apple- and hazelnut-infused coconut water in a cocoa-rimmed glass.
Chefs from 16 participating eateries were challenged to showcase Pinata apples, Oregon hazelnuts and cocoa in their dishes.
Gold medal winners included Elements, Capers, Common Block Brewing Co., Misoya Bistro, Porters, Fired-Up Food Truck, Berg's Bakery & Bistro, Habanero's Mexican Restaurant, Howiee's on First, Spoons, and Sunrise Cafe.
Silver medal winners were Larks, Rocky Tonk Saloon and Grape Street Bar & Grill.
The event raised more than $6,000, which was distributed to South Medford High School’s band, metalworking, ceramics and culinary arts departments; North Medford High School’s band; Jackson County 4-H culinary programs; the Sodexo Future Chef program; two sommelier scholarships; and scholarships for local chefs earning certifications.
