Jackson County law enforcement agencies will participate in a statewide "seat belt blitz" campaign set for May 15-28.

That period of increased enforcement comes before the Memorial Day holiday, which is one of the busiest travel weekends of the year, according to a Jackson County Sheriff's Office news release. Fines for seat belt law violations are $110.

Officers also will be looking for speeders, drivers who are transporting minors in an open pickup bed, or talking on a cellphone that isn't a hands-free device. Dedicated funds from the U.S. Department of Transportation will pay for the blitz.
