What is going on at the lot off Barnett across from HomeTown Buffet? It looks like they are leveling that area out; so is some business going to build there?

— Dara D., Medford

As you recall, Dara, that property used to be part of the south Medford interchange before it was moved to its new location to the south.

The Murphy Family LLC bought the 5.72-acre lot for $1.6 million from the Oregon Department of Transportation on May 9, 2016.

According to Medford Building Director Sam Barnum, Murphy has taken out a permit to excavate the lot.  Plans announced earlier call for a commercial center on the property, next to the Winco shopping center, but Murphy hasn't announced a lineup for the tenants.

Ever since the interchange was moved farther south, there has been a lot of commercial building activity at that end of Medford.

Local developer Cris Galpin is planning three buildings on the Southside Center I complex where Center Drive presently ends at Garfield Street.

Cracker Barrel Old Country Store is being planned at that location, with other tenants still unannounced.
