PHOENIX —A wrong-way driver died Saturday night following a head-on crash on Interstate 5.

Oregon State Police reported Medford resident Ellis Feinstein, 81, drove his pick-up truck head-on into a semi-tractor trailer near Fern Valley Road interchange. Feinstein entered the freeway headed the wrong way, driving south onto the northbound off-ramp at Exit 24 a little after 10 p.m. His 2002 GMC truck traveled several hundred feet before colliding head-on with a 2016 Freightliner operated by Harminder Singh Nijjar, 49, a British Columbia resident.

Feinstein, who was the sole occupant, died from his injuries. Nijjar, who was also alone in his rig, was uninjured. Northbound lanes were closed several hours following the crash.
