A former Central Point teenager on the lam since June from a youth prison was arrested Monday in Klamath Falls on an attempted murder charge after he allegedly shot a 19-year-old woman twice with a sawed-off shotgun, court records show.
Brittain McAuliffe, 18, was arrested two days after he allegedly shot the woman, who suffered serious injuries, according to a Klamath Falls police affidavit filed in court in the case.
The Associated Press reported that the victim was found on a bike path Saturday and was flown to a Portland hospital for treatment.
McAuliffe was arraigned Monday in a Klamath County courtroom on charges of attempted murder with a firearm, first-degree assault with a firearm, two counts of unlawful use of a firearm, coercion, initiating a false report and improper use of 9-1-1, court records show.
Details of the last two charges were unavailable, other than they occurred Sunday, records show.
McAuliffe and 18-year-old Micah West, of Salem, escaped the Oregon Youth Authority's Camp Riverbed Youth Transitional Facility outside of LaGrande June 20, the fifth anniversary of McAuliffe’s initial referral to OYA on felony theft and other charges, OYA records show.
The pair surfaced three days later in a stolen Oregon State Parks and Recreation Department pickup fleeing through northeastern Oregon. Police said the pair were considered dangerous and possibly armed.
West was captured a month later in Albany, but McAuliffe had remained at large since.
McAuliffe was originally referred to OYA on five misdemeanors and one felony charge of first-degree theft, OYA records show. In 2015, he was referred to OYA on charges of second-degree escape, resisting arrest and second-degree criminal mischief, with the escape occurring from a police vehicle, records show.
For that, McAuliffe spent 264 days in OYA’s facility in Grants Pass before being transferred July 21, 2016, to the transitional facility from which he escaped.
