The body of a Central Point fisherman reported missing last month has been found.
A family member found the body of Douglas Edwin Vail, 65, lying in a wooded area near Union Creek campground Saturday morning, according to Sgt. Shawn Richards with the Jackson County Sheriff's Office.
More than 30 staff and volunteers with Jackson County Search and Rescue put more than 700 hours into the search for Vail, Richards said, but it was a family member who found him Sept. 30, in a location off the main trail that was secluded and not visible by air.
“We had done extensive searches in that area," Richards said. "I don’t know how we missed him, but we did.”
The cause of death is still under investigation, according to Richards.
