Jackson County sheriff's deputies are investigating the death of a 13-year-old girl found along East Evans Creek Road early Monday.
Police responded to the 5100 block, north of Rogue River, at about 7:30 a.m. following a 911 call from a passerby who found the girl on the ground.
The girl was pronounced dead at the hospital, according to a news release from the Jackson County Sheriff's Office. Police have identified the girl but were still working to locate and notify her next of kin.
Investigative teams on scene said it seemed likely the girl had been struck by a passing vehicle or an item attached to a vehicle, according to the release. Anyone who drove through the area Monday morning and has information is asked to call police at 541-776-7206.
Also, any residents who have a surveillance camera system that records traffic on East Evans Creek Road between the city of Rogue River and Wimer is asked to call.
"We're still investigating exactly what happened," said sheriff's Sgt. Julie Denney.
