Can you give us an update on the building going on around town? What is going in next to SpringHill Suites? What is being built across from Natural Grocers? Anything else of interest being built out there?

It may take some time, but we usually get around to writing about local building projects before readers notice they're there. In this case, we direct you to our archives for a longer answer to you questions.

The two Marriott hotel properties on Center Drive will be joined by a new Holiday Inn Express sometime next year.

Sycan B Corp, a Springfield hotel operator, plans to build a four-story, 93-room hotel on a 2.4-acre flag lot adjacent to TownePlace Suites and SpringHill Suites.

Sycan B President Richard Boyles said the area was ripe for additional units, and the opportunity to develop a Holiday Inn Express fit into the company’s plans. Boyles said the plan is to break ground in summer 2018 and open during spring 2019.

On the north end of town, you are seeing the latest phase of the Northgate development going up across from the Natural Grocers. It will be known as Northgate Office Park. The first three tenants have signed leases, and commercial activity will likely begin next spring.

Starbucks and Stanton Optical, a national eye care firm, will share a 5,000-square-foot building, while DaVita Dialysis Center, which has a presence on Golf View Drive in southeast Medford, will occupy a 9,000-square-foot building. The developer is Tatum Real Estate of Fort Collins, Colorado.

We'll have plenty to report in coming months once developers start leasing areas near the new Costco in Central Point, and you'll soon be seeing a Cracker Barrel restaurant popping up on Garfield Street near the south Medford interchange.
