Ruth Boothby passed away November 16, 2016 after a nearly two-and-a-half-year battle with leukemia (ALL). Ruth was born February 15, 1944 to Alfred Earl Shepherd and Elizabeth Caroline (Rapley) Shepherd in Pontiac, Mich.
After graduating from high school she attended Michigan State University where she went on to earn a B.A. in social work. She was employed by the State of Michigan in Detroit. After leaving Michigan, Ruth worked and traveled for years with stays in New York, Texas, and California and finally arrived in Oregon, settling in the Eugene area before eventually moving to Medford in the mid-1980s. She worked for the Internal Revenue Service and later met and married Brian Boothby in 1987. They adopted two children, Christine and Maxwell. Ruth retired in 2004.
She was a world traveler with visits to several countries in South America, Jamaica, Japan, India, and Europe with her most recent visit to destinations along the Danube. Ruth also backpacked, cycled the Oregon coast, climbed the Three Sisters and later traveled the southwest with her husband, Brian. Ruth was an avid reader and volunteer Girl Scout leader, caregiver, and nanny.
Ruth is survived by her husband, Brian; children, Christine and Maxwell (Jamie); and two grandchildren, Olivianna and Addelaide; sisters, Marcia Nye and Patricia Shepherd; and her brother, Tom (Suzanne) Shepherd; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
The family would like to thank the staff of Rogue Valley Hospice for the loving care and kindness that they provided to Ruth and her family.
A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. Saturday, December 3, 2016 at the Historic Presbyterian Church, 405 E. California Street, Jacksonville, Ore.
