Frieda Lorton, 89, of Central Point, Ore. passed away November 15, 2016 at her home with family at her side. She was born February 25, 1927 to Daniel and Mabel Nichols in Zillah, Wash. She attended Talent Schools and after graduating she met and married Bill J. Lorton in 1945. They had three children, Michael Duke, Erin Noel, and Dennis Edward.
Frieda was a supervisor at Harry and David; she had over 500 wonderful workers. She later ran part of the Country Store.
Momma was known as the "Iris Lady" for her half-acre of iris. She had 184 colors of beautiful iris, 178 of which she hybridized herself and named them after family and friends; people came to paint and take pictures. Gardening was a love of hers.
She was a member of the DAR and the Daughters of the Mayflower Society. Frieda was active in Search and Rescue as a ham radio operator.
Mrs. Lorton attended Table Rock Christian Fellowship and started the clothing section of the food pantry.
Frieda is survived by daughter, Erin Lawrence; son, Dennis Lorton; sister, Charleen Ventura; nine grandchildren; eight great-grand-children; and many nieces and nephews. Her dear husband of 57 years, Bill preceded her in death as did her parents; six brothers and sisters, Helen, Mabel, Herbert, Violet, Evelyn, and Orville; son, Michael; granddaughter, Kristian Nichole; and son-in-law, James Lawrence.
Throughout her life she was loved and was a friend to many. Most important to Frieda was her faith which she shared with her beloved family and friends.
A service for Frieda will be held at 6:00 p.m. Friday, December 9, 2016 at Table Rock Christian Fellowship.
