February 4, 1951 - March 6, 2017

George Francis Haefling, R.N., 66, passed away peacefully March 6, 2017 surrounded by family after an unexpected illness.  Born February 4, 1951 in Terre Haute, Indiana, George lived his life with a bright smile, a brilliant mind, and a contagious positive attitude; he was a true gift from God.

George was an exemplary and celebrated nurse who served patients for 35 years at Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center (ARRMC).  A passionate leader with Oregon Nurses Association, he participated in numerous leadership capacities and was awarded the Rising Star Award in 2005 by ONA for demonstrating great promise of future leadership and the Excellence in Nursing Award by ARRMC in 2012.

George was a proud Eagle Scout and lived life dedicated in service and obligation to others.  He was an avid reader and true Philomath!  He loved the outdoors and was passionate about river rafting, golf, tennis, the arts, gardening, photography, music, cooking, and was an amazing husband, father, brother, uncle, and friend!  No one could tell a story like George, or make people smile the way he did.  His sense of humor was infectious and he always found a way to make you feel special.  He was enthusiastic every day, whether it was going to work at his unit in BHU; telling a joke; sharing a sports play by play about his beloved Chicago Cubs, Giants, 49ers, or the Oregon Ducks; making breakfast for the residents of Good Shepherd North; or reciting "Gunga Din," his favorite poem by Rudyard Kipling.

He and his wife loved to travel and he enjoyed showing off his state of Oregon!  Their travels included Hawaii, Mexico, Las Vegas, Chicago, San Francisco, Florida Keys, Napa Valley, Lake Tahoe, the Washington coast, or in search of the ultimate lighthouse.

George is survived by wife, Edith Haefling; daughter, Rachael (Michael) Fusaro; step-sons, Jeremy (Amy) George and Adam George, EdelMark (Lian) Pinpin, Edelbert Pinpin; and step-daughter, Edeliza Pinpin; mother-in-law, Cresencia Ganir; siblings, Marc Haefling, Kathryn (Tim) Whiston, Gerry Haefling, Georgette (Chris) Hunefeld, Kerrie Goodman, DiAnne Krueger, Kier Haefling, and Jonathan Haefling; and numerous nieces and nephews.  He was preceded in death by his parents, Louis and Lucille Haefling and dogs, Toot and Oreo.

Our family graciously thanks the competent and kind ICU medical staff at AARMC for their exemplary care.

There will be a Mass at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 517 W. 10th St., Medford, Ore. Saturday, March 18, 2017 at 8:30 a.m.
