March 31, 1936 - March 6, 2017

Joni Rasmussen went home to her Lord and Savior suddenly on March 6, 2017. She was born in Escondido, California to William (Bill) Savage and Edna (Chaney) Savage.

In 1944, the family moved to Grants Pass, Oregon, where she grew up and graduated from high school. Early in life, she battled polio and, as a result, spent most of her years attempting to get warm.

She married the love of her life, Del Rasmussen, December 31, 1957, and together they raised four children, Mark Rasmussen (Sandra), Terry Rasmussen (Ginger), Eric Rasmussen (Marty), and Lisa Spurlock (John). She was a gospel-centered, Proverbs 31 woman who was selfless and lived her life for others.

In 1976 Joni went to college and obtained a degree in Respiratory Therapy, earning straight As and showing her kids what hard work and determination looked like. She spent the next 30+ years working at Rogue Regional Medical Center.

Del and Joni’s great sense of adventure took them on a nearly seven-year sailing excursion up to Canada, through the San Juan Islands, and down the west coast to the Sea of Cortez off the coast of Mexico. Other adventures included trips to Canada, Alaska, Israel, and Italy, as well as motor home travels around the U.S.

She was an amazing wife, mother, grandmother, sister, aunt, cousin, co-worker, and friend. She will be greatly missed.

Joni leaves behind a devoted husband, four children, 16 grandchildren, and 13 great grandchildren; a brother, Alan Savage (Sharon); seven nieces and nephews; her lifelong best friend and sister-in-law, Joanna James (Guinn); as well as hundreds of friends.

Joni’s family rests in the assurance they will be reunited, as they cling to the hope found in Jesus.

A celebration of Joni’s extraordinary life will be at 1:00 p.m., April 1, 2017 at Trail Christian Fellowship, 18881 Hwy 62, Eagle Point, Ore. A dessert reception will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Redemption Ridge at redemptionridge.org on her behalf.
