April 10, 1929 - May 22, 2017
Sharon Helena Lawrence Green, 88, passed away May 22, 2017 in Medford, Oregon. Sharon was born on April 10, 1929 in Boise, Idaho, the only child of Agnes and Edgar Lawrence. Her dad was a construction worker for the Idaho State Highway Department, so she and her mother moved around to his job sites. She graduated from high school in Boise, and she attended one year of college at the University of Idaho, where she belonged to the Delta Gamma Sorority. She became reacquainted with her future husband, Thomas J. Green in Boise, after first meeting him in Mountain Home. Tom and Sharon started talking, and then dating. The rest is history. On July 22, 1950, they eloped to Winnemucca, Nevada. Tom and Sharon moved to San Jose, California, where Tom went to San Jose State. They had four sons together in six years: Steve, Doug, Ray and Mitch. They eventually settled in San Rafael, Calif.
Sharon was a compassionate woman. She worked at Davidson Middle School in San Rafael for several years, and she often brought an extra sandwich for children who came to school without a lunch. While they lived in San Rafael, the family went on many picnics, and she stayed extremely busy raising four boys. She retired when her mother became ill and could no longer be alone. After her mom passed away, Sharon substituted until they moved from San Rafael, Calif. to Jacksonville, Ore. in 1988.
In Jacksonville, Sharon became active with the local Booster Club. She also joined the Jacksonville Senior Group and was Secretary for two years before becoming President. Tom and Sharon’s home was the place the family gathered for Thanksgiving and Christmas. Sharon was an incredible cook and baker, and her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren were surrounded with love there. Sharon’s habit of keeping on the move was something that persisted up until her last days.
Sharon passed away exactly 10 months to the day after Tom died on July 22, 2016, which was the date of their 66th wedding anniversary.
Sharon is survived by her sons, Steve, Doug (Karen), and Ray (Lori); and grandchildren, Jessica Green Busse (Ryan), and Garrett Green (Amanda), all of Portland; Chris (Dana) Green of Ashland, OR and Camille Green (Casey) of Whidbey Island, Washington; great-grandchildren are Amelie and Zev Green, Max Green, and Charlotte Green. The family held a small graveside service at the Jacksonville Cemetery.
We are grateful to the caregivers at Farmington Square in Medford for their loving care as she progressed through the final stages of Alzheimer’s. We are also grateful to Marya Kain (Power of the Heart) for her guidance and support.
Sharon was a wonderful human being and we will miss her terribly. As she was fond of saying, “This too shall pass,” and indeed it did.
