September 9, 1931 - July 9, 2017

Jeanne Prud’homme, 85, of Medford, Oregon passed away Sunday, July 9, 2017. She was an only child born September 9, 1931 in San Francisco, California. She moved to Medford in 1996 to be closer to family.

Jeanne was born Anita Jean Lauricella. As a young girl, she preferred to be called Jeanne. As a newlywed, she was known as Jeanne Scott. When she became a bar owner, her nickname was Sam. Upon marrying a second time, her last name became Prud’homme. Perhaps the name she liked best was Nana Sam. She took great pride in her six grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Jeanne’s early years with her father’s Sicilian family in San Jose, Calif. gave her the opportunity to tend the cash register at the family store; sip diluted wine at the dinner table; and best of all, dance lessons. She performed in many musical recitals. As an ingénue, she posed at Muscle Beach in San Francisco.

As a single mother of three girls, Jeanne worked full time as a meat wrapper and evenings as a cocktail waitress in her mother’s bar across from Kezar Stadium in San Francisco.

Her great joys were food and traveling. She has been to all 50 states and all seven continents except Australia and Antarctica. She asked that her family enjoy the adventure of scattering her ashes in a place she has never been.

Jeanne had a deep care and concern for others. She valued every friendship. She joined many support groups, Multiple Sclerosis Support Group, Bible Study Fellowship, Widows Group, Laugh Group, Joni and Friends, and Care Ministry.

When multiple sclerosis left her unable to walk, she continued to go on cruises, road trips, and bus trips using a walker and later, a wheelchair. Her strong will, strength, and determination allowed her to be independent and her faith in God kept her at peace. No longer in pain, perhaps she is now enjoying a big plate of pasta and dancing under Heavenly skies face to face with her Savior, Jesus Christ.

JJeanne is survived by her three daughters, Marlene Cullen (Jim), Janet Pierce (John), and Donna.

At her request, there will be no memorial service. Donations in memory of Jeanne Prud’homme may be sent to: Multiple Sclerosis Society; Wycliffe Bible Translators; Joni and Friends; First Baptist Church, Medford, Ore.; Southern Oregon Humane Society; or to The Larry Cullen Memorial Scholarship Fund, founded by Jeanne’s grandson. Checks payable to: Santa Rosa Junior College Foundation, 1501 Mendocino Ave., Santa Rosa, CA 95401. Thank you for however you choose to honor and remember Jeanne.

Jeanne believed the truth of the following quote from the Bible: “But as for me, I know that my redeemer lives and that He will stand upon the earth at last . . . I shall see him, not as a stranger, but as a friend. What a glorious hope!” Job 19:25-27
