November 11, 1926 - August 3, 2017
It is with great sadness we have to let go of our loving and talented dad, husband, grandfather, and great-grandfather, who died peacefully.
He was born and raised in Medford, Oregon to Cap (Leland) and Peggy Mentzer. He went on to join the Navy after school, and served on the USS Saratoga during World War II. After his discharge, he returned to Medford and married his wonderful bride, Ruth Cook in 1950. They remained together 67 years until his passing. He worked at McGrew Bros. sawmill until his retirement. He is best known for his shop-tinkering abilities, and he built many steam engines. You could find him with his family every Tuesday, steamboating on local lakes.
He leaves behind his wife, Ruth; one son, Ron (Jeanie); daughter-in-law, Pam; four grandkids, Annie, Seth (Trista), Andy, and Sarah (Phil); and five great-granddaughters, Taylor, Peyton, Haylee, Ruthie, and Mary Jo. He was preceded in death by a son, Art.
He was a social, active man and will be deeply missed. His graveyard service will be Friday, August 11, 2017 at 10:00 a.m. at Hillcrest Memorial, and will be officiated by Don Sample.
