1947 - 2017

Randy was a man of great integrity, big heart, and generosity of spirit. Randy passed peacefully at home August 28, 2017 surrounded by love.

Born in Vanport, Oregon to James Russell and Viola (Revill) Williams, he spent his youth in Vancouver, Washington, graduating from Hudson Bay High School in 1965. He honorably served as a Navy corpsman for four years during the Vietnam conflict. In 1978 he graduated from University of Portland with a Bachelor of Science in nursing. Randy was passionate about his profession as a registered nurse, a career he loved for more than three decades. The last 28 years of nursing were spent at Asante Rogue Regional Medical Center in the emergency room, serving his community. In the words of a nursing colleague, "Randy was a comfort, an excellent nurse, a stellar role model, a brave and innovative advocate for nursing care who has enriched the lives of our community and so much more." Randy inspired us to do our best in all things.

Randy lived a LARGE life, an avid athlete and outdoorsman who enjoyed rock and mountain climbing, camping, running, biking, skiing, whitewater kayaking, and sailing. He loved to volunteer and teach. Randy had a passion for emergency medicine and the outdoors. He volunteered for 13 years as a member of the Mt. Ashland Ski Patrol where he taught outdoor emergency care.

In retirement, Randy learned to sail, play jazz guitar, and studied Shakespeare; he engaged in politics, became a "wannabe" land developer, and farmed his beloved Whiskey River acreage. He frequently travelled to Hawaii with friends and family, and explored the Caribbean skippering a sailboat.

Above all, Randy was a devoted family man and loyal friend to many. He is survived by wife, partner and best friend, Vicki; daughter, Sheila Zoller (Mike); sons, Dylan Russell Williams (Katherine) and Stuart Hilton Williams; grandchildren, Cole and Brooke Zoller and Amaru Williams; brother, Russ Williams (Judy); sister, Vickie Kraemer (Eugene); and trusted companions Wyatt and Ted.

Randy requested a Hawaiian-themed celebration of life. It will be held from 6:00 p.m.-9:00 p.m.  Saturday, September 16, 2017 at Centennial Golf Course in Medford, Ore. Please wear your favorite aloha attire and bring fun stories and memories. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to the International Myeloma Foundation or the Oregon Nurses Association Foundation.

In Randy’s words, "I ain’t never had too much fun." He certainly tried!!
