Leora C. Guthrie passed away peacefully September 14, 2017, at the age of 81. She was born in Reydon, Oklahoma and moved to Medford, Oregon with her family in 1944 at the age of nine. She grew up in the Griffin Creek area and graduated from Medford High School in 1953. She met her future husband, Lemuel at the Griffin Creek Grange in 1951 at a fall dance. They were married a year later and remained in the Rogue Valley to raise their sons and later, retire.
Leora enjoyed gardening, baking, and canning. She loved flowers and had a special place in her heart for hollyhocks. She liked windmills, which reminded her of her early years in Oklahoma. She will forever be remembered for her love of family, her chocolate chip cookies, and her bread and butter pickles.
Leora was preceded in death by her husband, Lemuel and is survived by her two sons, Dwayne of Talent and John of Ashland and their families; her two brothers, Edwin Gillispie of Renton, Washington and Max Gillispie of Central Point, Ore.; her three sisters, Alverna Biggs of Guthrie, Okla., Mayola Watson of Eagle Point, Ore., and Ruth Keen of Battleground, Wash.; her grandchildren; and many nieces and nephews. A private burial was held at Hillcrest Memorial Cemetery.
