Marjorie E. Gleason Peterson, 97, passed away October 3, 2017 in Central Point, Oregon. She was born in Kansas to Ernest and Ella, and was the eldest of seven children.

The Gleason family moved to Southern Oregon in 1937, joining other members of Ella’s family who had previously migrated to Oregon. Marjorie met Chester Peterson at the local ice rink while he was stationed with the U.S. Army at Camp White. She faithfully wrote to him while he was serving in the Far East. Chester and Marjorie were married December 28, 1947 in Medford, four months after he moved from Illinois to take a job at COPCO (predecessor to PacifiCorp.)

Marjorie joined Epsilon Sigma Alpha Sorority (Alpha Lambda chapter) in 1946, and was a lifetime member. Besides her leadership roles in the Alpha Lambda chapter, she served as the Oregon State President in 1972 and traveled with Chester to the Bahamas for the international convention.

She worked as a bookkeeper for US Bank and Doctor’s Clinic. Marjorie was a prior member of First Christian Church in Medford and most recently was a member of Eastwood Baptist Church.

She is survived by her children, Rita (Tim) Camp, Lori (Shawn) Weatherford, and Wayne (Pam) Peterson; brothers and sisters-in-law, Al (Jan), Vern (Lois), Ruth, and Janet; grandchildren, Carla (Steve), Chad, Stephen, Ben (Lindsay), Joel, Arch, and Kristen. Her great-grandson, Joseph gave her so much joy. She is also survived by many cousins, nephews, and nieces who will miss her. She was preceded in death by her husband; parents; sister, Lorraine Benson; brothers, Ted, Jim, and Royal Gleason; grandsons, Brent and Cameron; and nephews, Dave and Don.

The family would like to thank R&R Adult Foster Home for the exceptional care she received from Christina and owner, Remy during the last years of her life. We would also like to thank Celia Canty of Healing Harp for ushering our mom into the Lord’s presence.

Marjorie’s memorial service will be at 2 p.m. Friday, October 27, 2017 at Perl Funeral Home chapel, 2100 Siskiyou Blvd., Medford, OR. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in Marjorie’s name to St. Jude Research Hospital.
