January 29, 1941 - October 22, 2017
In October of 2000, Fred relocated to Jacksonville, Oregon with his wife, Cheryl. He had many enjoyable years in the Rogue Valley and left us after a 16-year experience with prostate cancer.
Rising from Dust Bowl era family roots, he learned to work hard. Following three years in the U.S. Army, he earned a Master’s Degree in Social Work and became a Licensed Clinical Social Worker. Locally, he established a successful private practice in psychotherapy.
His passions included his Christian faith, cycling, playing music, landscape gardening, and home improvement. He was an involved, loving, fun-inducing husband, father, grandfather, and friend.
Fred is survived by his wife of 39 years, Cheryl von Tress; his daughters, Emily von Tress-Sullivan and Ana von Hirtz; sons (in law), Paul von Hirtz and Peter Sullivan; granddaughter, Avery Sullivan; grandson, Oliver von Hirtz; three nieces; five nephews; and a sister-in-law.
Celebration of Life service will be held at 3:00 p.m. Saturday, November 4, 2017 at First Presbyterian Church of Jacksonville, 425 Middle Street. Donations to Rogue River Greenway or Rogue Valley Habitat for Humanity.
