July 24, 1957 - November 2, 2017

Janet Lynn Fitzgerald, 60, passed away at home in Medford, Oregon, Thursday, November 2, 2017, surrounded by love. She fought a long battle with liver disease and cancer.

Born July 24, 1957 in North Hollywood, California to Judith and Chuck Jay, Jan was blessed with a sister, Leanne a few years later. In 1975 she married Charles Rucker and they had a son and a daughter, Angela Hervey (Rucker). In 1994 she married Edward Fitzgerald and although they never had any biological children, they spent the last 27 years together adding “bonus” kids to their lives.

She lived in many different places throughout the U.S. before settling in the Medford/Central Point area of Oregon, where she worked at new car dealerships until she became ill in 2015. Jan worked for Lithia Motors for over 16 years and held positions from reception to finance, and eventually became an office manager for Nissan and Toyota. She then worked for the corporate offices here in Medford before life took a different turn. She found herself at Crater Lake Ford in 2013 and found an amazing work family to be part of. In 2015, she became ill and in the early weeks of 2016 had to leave her position to focus on her health.

Jan was a devoted volunteer for her grandchildrens’ elementary school, helping to run fundraisers and organizing events for the parent-teacher organization she loved to be a part of. She also spent many hours over the years volunteering for Relay for Life and raising money for the American Cancer Society. As an avid scrap booker, she spent many hours preserving memories of her life alongside her many ‘bonus’ daughters. She created beautiful items for her kids and grandchildren that will be treasured for years.

Jan will be especially remembered for her strength, her ability to command a room, and her undying love for her husband, her mother, and her entire family.

Survivors include her husband, Ed Fitzgerald; her mother, Judy McArdle; her sister, Leanne Jay; and her daughter and son-in-law Angela and Sam Hervey. She also leaves behind nine grandchildren and one great-grandson along with at least a dozen others who called her their second Mom or Nana. Jan was preceded in death by her dad, Tom McArdle and uncle, Bill Keever.

A Celebration of Life will be held at 1 p.m., Sunday, November 12 at the Conger-Morris Funeral Home, 800 S Front Street, Central Point, Oregon. Scattering of ashes will be done privately by family. Relatives and friends are welcome at the service. At Jan’s request, please don’t wear black; wear bright colors and come as she would remember you.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions are welcome and should be mailed to Community Works, Attn: Dunn House Donations, 201 West Main Street Ste 3D, Medford, OR 97501.

Thank you to Asante Hospice for the amazing help and support over the last several weeks.
