April 17, 1949 - October 27, 2017
Sharon Joy Mizuta, 68, passed away October 27, 2017 in Portland, Oregon, where she was undergoing treatment for a brain aneurysm. Sharon was born April 17, 1949 in Ontario, Oregon to George and Mary (Yanagawa) Mizuta. She was the second of five Mizuta children to grow up on the family farm.
Sharon graduated from Ontario High School, then attended Pacific University. She later moved to the Rogue Valley, where she lived for most of her life. In Medford, she worked for many years in retail managing a furniture business. She then worked for Norwest Bank before starting her own successful mortgage brokerage.
Sharon was a very generous and giving person who loved to find thoughtful gifts for others. She enjoyed sharing experiences with friends and family, whether it was fine dining, concerts, or other special events. She traveled often to visit relatives in Ontario, Portland, and the east coast. Sharon also had a natural aesthetic sensibility and was skilled at arranging flowers, decorating sweets, and creating elaborate gift and holiday packages. When she encountered challenges in life, she responded with determination – just one example is when she persevered through months of physical therapy to recover her ability to walk independently after an accident in 2007 shattered her legs.
Sharon was a loving mother to two sons – Kevan Inouye from her first marriage and Martin Doern from her second marriage – as well as a caring auntie to many nephews and nieces. She was also a devoted and extremely proud “Bachan” (grandma) to three granddaughters, whom she loved to spoil with surprise presents and treats. She relished her role as a grandmother and cherished the time she had with them.
Sharon was preceded in death by her father, George Mizuta and her brother, Bill Mizuta. She is survived by her mother Mary Mizuta; her siblings, Jerry Mizuta, David Mizuta, and Margie Yasuda and their families; her son, Kevan Inouye and daughter-in-law, Jennifer (Matsumoto); son, Martin and daughter-in-law, Megan (Frey); and three granddaughters, Clara Doern, Alice Doern, and Mia Inouye.
Memorial services will be held at 5:00 p.m. Sunday, November 12 at the Idaho-Oregon Buddhist Temple in Ontario. The family is also planning a memorial reception in the Medford area early next year.
