Jim would like you all to know that his work here on earth is done. He received a call that he is moving up to the major leagues, a sort of offer that he cannot refuse. He is now claiming his new home in Heaven alongside our Lord. James T. Ulrich, 69, of Shady Cove, Oregon graduated from this Earth November 6, 2017 at 1:43 a.m., surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in Loma Linda, California, the only child of loving parents, Robert and Gladys Ulrich, and was raised in Torrance, Calif. On September 8, 1973 he married the love of his life, Lola Jean McBride and they had two children, Patrick and Tara.
James Ulrich loved the city of Torrance and dedicated 32 years of his life as a police officer and sergeant for the Torrance Police Department. He truly loved his career in which he focused on serving his community and helping to make the world a better place one person at a time. He also spent over 10 years as a guidance counselor at SCROC (Southern California Regional Occupation Center) where he was able to once again serve his community by mentoring young adults.
Once retired he and his beloved wife Lola moved to Shady Cove, Ore. where he settled into a career as a city council member, once again dedicating his work to helping his new city. His passion was volunteering and he loved his volunteer position at the Veterans Administration in Eagle Point, Ore. along with volunteering for the Shady Cove Fire Department.
He leaves behind his soulmate, Lola; his son, Patrick, his wife, Megan, and their two children, Charlotte and Mason; along with his daughter, Tara, her husband, Ryan, and their two boys, Jackson and Jacob. His role of husband, father, and popi was what gave him the greatest joy in life!
A celebration of life is being planned in the Los Angeles area in December and another one will be held in Shady Cove in the spring to honor his amazing legacy. His legend of kindness and love for all he met can be seen in the lives he truly touched over the years. He lived life to the fullest and embodied true love and beauty of the heart.
