October 15, 1931 - December 28, 2017

Donald John “Bud” Messmer passed peacefully at home, Thursday, December 28, 2017, surrounded by family. He was born October 15, 1931 in Buffalo, New York to German immigrants Caroline Ann (née Laufer) and John Henry Messmer.

His careers ranged from his early family days of delivering milk, to owning a radio and television sales and repair company in southern California, and ending in retirement in 1993 as Maintenance Administrator at Central Point School District No. 6.

Retirement brought Bud great joy traveling with Evelyn, fishing the local rivers and lakes, making car purchases, tying flies, and making custom fishing rods. As a hobbyist hand gun enthusiast, he was a frequent visitor at local ranges for target practice to hone his skills.

Bud is survived by his wife of 35 years, Evelyn; children, Caralee Mustain (Earnie), Bruce Messmer, Clark Messmer (Brenda), Ron Messmer (Tina), Susan Taylor (Al), Jerry DeJong (Gina), and Steve DeJong (Vicki). Bud was blessed by his 13 grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and two great-great-grandchildren. He was preceded in death by daughters, Susan, Renee, Lynne, and Laurie; and granddaughter, Lauryn.

A memorial service is scheduled for Friday, January 12, 2018 at 11:00 a.m., at Shepherd of the Valley Catholic Church, 600 Beebe Road, Central Point, Oregon, with a reception to follow. All are welcome to attend and celebrate Bud's life. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Jude Children’s Hospital at http://giftfunds.stjude.org/donaldmessmer.

The family would like to thank Providence Home Health and Hospice caregivers for their care and compassion.
