May 1, 1940 - January 24, 2018
Ronell (Ron) Raymond Yates passed away January 24, 2018 at his home in Phoenix, Oregon. Ron’s death was associated with cancer treatment and heart failure.
Ron was born May 1, 1940 in Riverside, California to Dorman and Evelyn Yates. He spent his formative years in Oro Grande and Victorville, Calif. Ron graduated from Victor Valley High School in 1958. In 1971 he moved to Ashland, Ore. with his former wife Judith Hoskins Johnston where they built a beautiful farm and raised their children. Ron was a skilled welder and was employed several years at Oak Street Tank & Steel in Ashland. He retired from 3M/Kodak in 2003.
Outdoor adventures played a big part in Ron’s life – camping, fishing, cutting firewood – or speeding around Shasta Lake with a boat full of family and friends. After his son’s death in 2007, his world got a little smaller, but he still found great pleasure taking day trips, cooking with friends, and watching any sporting event he could find.
His son, Rick Yates and his parents preceded him in death. He is survived by his children, Susan Yates Miller (John) and Jana Edic (Chyle); grandsons, Will and Bennett Miller; his children’s mother, Judi Hoskins Johnston; aunt, Hazel Palmer; cousins, Jim and John Francis; dear friend, Shirley Forrette; and his longtime friends, Brian and Jackie Hancock.
Ron will be remembered as a man with a dry wit who wasn’t shy about speaking his convictions, a loving and proud father, and fiercely loyal to his network of friends. To honor our dad – take a trip to one of dad’s favorite places: Shasta Lake, Humbug State Park, or Howard Prairie Lake Resort; he would like that.
We will miss you, dad; we’re so grateful for the life and love you shared with us.
A private gathering has been held. Memorial donations may be made to the Medford Gospel Mission, www.medfordgospelmission.org.
