Elgan Eugene (Bud) Amidon

Elgan Eugene (Bud) Amidon passed December 12, 2017. He was born March 8, 1929 in Medford, Oregon to Elgan Cooper Amidon and Amy Margaret Amidon, née Wolter. He graduated from Medford High School in 1947, and went on to receive his bachelor’s and master’s degrees from SOC. Bud taught 5th grade at Central Point Elementary School, and he also served as a volunteer firefighter at Central Point Rural Fire District 3 in the mid-1950s and early 1960s.
Bud was raised in Medford and,except during his honorable service in the U.S. Air Force in the early 1950s, he lived his entire life in and around the Rogue Valley. Many years were spent at the family property near Prospect, and Bud generously shared a lifelong love of hunting, fishing, and hiking with family and friends. He enjoyed fishing at Diamond Lake and made several fishing trips to Alaska. He also liked collecting firearms and fishing gear.
While still in the Air Force, Bud met his one true love, Joan Anderson (Jo). On June 28, 1952, Bud and Jo were married in Carson City, Nevada. They celebrated their 53rd anniversary before she passed in 2005.
Bud is survived by three sons, Geary (Stacie) of Shady Cove; Jeff of Portland; and Mike (Sue) of Central Point. He is also survived by grandsons, James of New Haven, Connecticut and Joshua of Yuma, Arizona. Bud was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Jo; and his sisters, Eileen Vaughn, Gene Washburn, Gertrude Smith, and Esther Cook.
At his request, there was no funeral, but a picnic in Bud’s honor will be held May 5, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at Geary and Stacie’s home in Shady Cove. If you would like to attend, please RSVP via email to email@example.com, or you may call Jeff at (503) 816-4240.
