Leadership is important
Leadership is an important feature in the corporate world, in private business and in government. It is not easy to make the tough decisions but real leaders have to do this.
The first thing you do in leadership is to make the tough decisions early. Style points are awarded in ice skating but not in very many other events.
Business leaders have to do their best to protect stockholder values and governmental leaders have to protect and advance the country. We have such a leader at the helm now. It is important to keep these things in mind as the years progress.
There are issues that need to be addressed and there is some degeneration going on in our society. Let’s all see if we can be a little more tolerant and patient and then we can watch as the country moves to the next level of excellence.
My New Year's wishes
That we all count our blessings the first thing every morning. Things we may take for granted here are blessings to much of the rest of the world.
That we passionately but civilly discourse with one another. Ideas toward solutions are valuable and need sharing without rancor or vulgarity.
That we put aside (not forget) the past that cannot be changed so that changes can be promoted without extraneous baggage.
That we point out our perception of failings without needless adjectives and hackneyed phrases.
That we support our suggestions for change not only with passion but with thoughtful solutions. We have political and social systems that provide platforms to build from. If they are insufficient, well-reasoned platforms can be created if enough people will band together for that common cause.
That we never quit questing for something better for those less fortunate than ourselves and accept that most solutions require our involvement.
I wish for each of you inner peace.
Aaron Blake’s list of potential Democratic candidates for president in 2020 could be expanded to include former New York governor Eliot Spitzer and New York mayor Michael Bloomberg.
Before his sex scandal he was called “the future of the Democratic party” and “the sheriff of Wall Street."
Compared to Trump, Roy Moore and the dozens of other recent celebrity and political misbehavers, Spitzer seems almost angelic! He is one of the most brilliant politicians (and TV commentators) to come along since Adlai Stevenson.
Bloomberg, a real multi-billionaire, is incorruptible, a proven vote-getter from both Democrats and Republicans.
Taxation is theft. That’s what it says on some fella’s homemade billboard along Interstate 5 north of town.
One wonders how he proposes paying for fire protection, the road up to his house, or a sewage system to flush away the excrement he produces. The necessity of taxation aside, one also wonders what he thinks of the tax plan foisted on us by President Barabbas and the Republicans. The theft of $1.5 trillion disguised as a middle-class tax cut? Stick that on your billboard.
