Thanks for support
In broad daylight at 3 p.m. on Jan. 29, a transient smashed my car window while I shopped at the Grocery Outlet.
If it were not for a good samaritan who called 911, this vile person could have taken my car. (Police could not locate him).
Medford Police officer Esqueda was so professional as he helped me through this terrible experience.
One lady offered me a ride home as my car was being towed away.
Thank you all for your help and support, and especially to the lady who took the time to call the police.

Thanks for forest easement
Our Southern Oregon community owes a heartfelt thank-you to the Parsons family and Pacific Forest Trust for a partnership that will preserve the Mountcrest Forest — 1,771 acres of extraordinary habitat in Ashland’s backyard.
Establishment of a conservation easement arranged by the trust will ensure that forestland that has been owned by Jud Parsons and his family for much of the past century will be managed for multiple benefits, including sustainable timber production.
Straddling the crossroads of the Klamath, Siskiyou and Cascade ranges, Mountcrest is one of the most biodiverse places in the world. The forest is home to northern spotted owls, coho salmon, and gray wolves — all listed under the Endangered Species Act — as well as dozens more rare or imperiled species such as the Pacific fisher, western pond turtle, and northern goshawk.
As the agreement illustrates, collaborative conservation can preserve our landscape, protect fish and wildlife, and contribute to the economic vitality of our communities. Mountcrest can and should be a model for other similar projects across the state.

We're all racist
Immigration has always brought out the worst in some Americans, as the Nazis demonstrated in 1939 by sending us a ship full of Jews. We denied them entry and sent them back to their deaths. Now Trump has revoked DACA and can hardly wait to begin deporting 800,000 young Hispanics raised in the U.S. Too bad they aren’t Norwegians.
Some ask if Trump is racist. How do they think he got elected? Twenty-six percent of the electorate felt empowered by the Birther candidate’s racial slurs and that’s all it took to turn the White House into a nut house. In a way we’re all racist. Our “land of the free” has the highest incarceration rate in the world and blacks are incarcerated at five times the rate of whites.
Thanks in part to Russian election meddling, our so-called president is an ignorant bigot who brags about the size of his nuclear button and repeatedly bashes minorities, immigrants and other countries. He’s tearing us apart, but his white nationalist base loves it. So does Putin for obvious reasons. During his SOTU address, Trump warned of evil forces seeking to undermine America’s way of life. He could have been talking about himself.
